LACE BED LINENS - Noël of Paris

The House of Noël, long known as one of the most beautiful names in embroidery,  has been in operation since 1883. Their well renown work can be found in the most exclusive homes and palaces from Buckingham Palace in London to the Élysée in Paris.

Although famed for their over 13,000 embroidery designs, which they can apply to bed linens and table linens, Noël also offers beautiful lace-trimmed options. The four that are in current production are pictured below.

As is true with many of our custom linen companies, you may pick your lace color (White or Ivory) and also which fabulous sateen sheeting color you would like it applied to. This is the hard part because one color is more beautiful than the next !

If you love these laces as much as we, and you have decided to order a set of linens for your bed, please think about adding an exquisite, hand-embroidered Beauvais-stitch monogram. 

Noël has three levels of embroidered monograms...machine, hand-guided machine and hand embroidery. The skill that is involved in the creation of all three types of monograms is of the highest order, but the hand embroidery is unparallelled. It is becoming increasingly harder for embroidery houses to find willing hands to learn this time-honored trade, so your investment in one of these treasures will be a luxury that few will be lucky enough to own.

Beauvais stitching looks like teeny, tiny chain stitches when viewed through a magnifying glass. Ok, yes, we are blind as bats and have to drag out the old magnifier to really study these stitches up close. They are amazing ! 

Noël has so many gorgeous products, that I will be highlighting them by category for you to ogle and coo. No project is too large or too small for them, so if you covet one of their fancies, please don't feel bashful about ordering a hankie or a boudoir to quench your lust.

CUSTOM EMBROIDERY....SUNFLOWER PLACE MATS

JUST HAD TO SHARE THESE BEAUTIFUL SUNFLOWER PLACE MATS MADE FOR US BY BARONI OF FLORENCE.

MANY YEARS AGO, A CUSTOMER SHOWED US A PICTURE OF A TABLECLOTH THAT WAS MADE BY ATTACHING DOZENS OF THESE SUNFLOWERS TOGETHER. IT WAS STUNNING ! SHE WAS INTERESTED IN HAVING  IT DUPLICATED,  SO WE SENT THE PICTURE OFF TO BARONI TO SEE IF HE COULD REPLICATE IT.  

NEVER ONE TO DISAPPOINT, BARONI MADE A SAMPLE (ACTUALLY TWO SAMPLES) OF A SUNFLOWER. IF THE CLIENT APPROVED, AND OF COURSE SHE DID, DOZENS OF THESE FLOWERS WOULD BE MADE AND SOWN TOGETHER TO FORM ANY SIZE TABLECLOTH SHE WANTED.

SINCE THEN, WE HAVE KEPT THESE TWO VERSIONS OF THE SUNFLOWER AT THE SHOP AND TAKEN MANY AN ORDER, NOT FOR TABLECLOTHS, BUT RATHER FOR PLACE MATS. YOU SEE, THESE INDIVIDUAL SUNFLOWERS ARE JUST THE RIGHT SIZE FOR A PLACE MAT ! 

THE SAMPLES ARE BOTH WHITE LINEN, ALTHOUGH YOU COULD CHOOSE FROM A PLETHORA OF LINEN COLORS. ONE SAMPLE IS APPLIQUED IN THE CENTER WITH A CONTRASTING COLOR LINEN,IN THIS CASE YELLOW, AND THE PETALS ARE OUTLINED IN MATCHING EMBROIDERY THREAD. 

THE OTHER SAMPLE HAS THE SAME TREATMENT ON THE PETALS, BUT HAS AN EMBROIDERED CENTER OF FRENCH KNOTS. SINCE THERE ARE EVEN MORE EMBROIDERY THREAD COLORS THAN THERE ARE LINEN COLORS, THIS MAT IS EASIER TO COLOR-MATCH TO ANY DECOR. 

DON'T YOU NEED SOME OF THESE PLACE MATS IN YELLOW LINEN WITH A BROWN EMBROIDERED CENTER TO ADD A POP TO YOUR THANKSGIVING TABLE ? A SEA OF SUNFLOWERS FOR YOUR HARVEST FESTIVAL....HOW FITTING !

KENNETH TURNER IS BACK !!

Good news for all you Kenneth Turner fans.......the collection is back in stock !! The company had terrible problems with their export affiliates for several years, but now everything is hunky-dory and they now stock their line in the United States.

We have stocked up ourselves on the original fragrance which is now called Signature. This Signature fragrance is a blend of Orange Blossom, Honeysuckle, Citrus, Woods and Spices and for those of you who love it, there is nothing like it.

They make 3 sizes of candles now and each comes in a glass vase that can be used for flowers when your candle is all used up. The largest Bouquet Vase has a 180 hour burn time, the medium Stem Vase will burn for 95 hours and the smallest Posy Vase for 50 hours.

We also are stocking the Room Spray, Reed Diffusers (which are very delicate and ethereal looking), hinged-neck silver candle snuffers and stainless steel wick trimmers. These make terrific presents with or without a favourite candle. We all have a friend or relative that lights candles daily and does not own a Snuffer. They will thank you ad nauseam for giving them one of these and will prattle on about how they are sorry they went so long without.

Long neck matches are on their way from London, but in the meantime we have the most marvelous lighters, which by the way, your candle-loving friends will love as well.  They are long enough to light a candle without burning your digits, but are elegant enough to leave out on the table (unlike those tacky, bulky lighters used to light the bar-b-que ).

A FEW YEARS AGO WHILE TROLLING THE INTERNET, I CAME ACROSS THESE ADORABLE CHILDREN'S SWEATERS. THEY ARE HAND-KNIT IN LONDON BY A GROUP OF WOMEN WHO ARE ADDICTED TO KNITTING. THEY HAVE KNIT SO MANY SWEATERS, SCARVES, MITTENS ETC. FOR EVERY PERSON THEY KNOW THAT THEY NOW KNIT FOR THIS CHARMING YARN SHOP OWNED BY PATRICIA ROBERTS AND LOCATED JUST OFF KNIGHTSBRIDGE.

THEY SELL NATURAL FIBER YARNS (ANGORA, CASHMERE. COTTON AND LAMBSWOOL) IN A PLETHORA OF COLORS, KNITTING NEEDLES, PATTERN BOOKS AND PROJECT KITS FOR THISE OF YOU THAT ARE BRAVE ENOUGH AND HAVE THE TIME AND PATIENCE TO MAKE YOUR OWN.

HOWEVER, WE ARE TOO IMPATIENT FOR THAT, SO WE OPTED FOR THE CUSTOM-MADE ONES BY THESE VERY TALENTED KNITTING ADDICTS ! ALTHOUGH THEY KNIT WONDERFUL SWEATERS FOR WOMEN AS WELL, IT IS THE CHILDREN'S LINE THAT CAUGHT MY FANCY.

I AM ESPECIALLY ENAMOURED BY THE CHESIL-STYLE SWEATERS WHICH SPORT A COMBINATION OF STITCHES AND A CUTE-AS-A-BUTTON PATCH WITH AN ANGORA BUNNY, OR DOG, OR SAILBOAT ETC.

THE SWEATERS CAN BE CUSTOM ORDERED IN MANY COLORS AND SIZES AND WE SHOULD HAVE THE NEWEST COLLECTION ARRIVING NEXT MONTH.
